Nutrition

So one of the more important things is nutrition, First you need to have the main food ( Rat blocks)

Your rats diet should be 80% rat blocks (I use my own mix and oxbow regal rat.) (I will make a post about my homemade mix.) You should give your rats 15% veggies and 5% fruits. The reason I didn't list protein is because there is protein in the rat blocks, but for a special treat you can give them peanut butter. Don't give rats anything dairy as they are lactose intolerant, so no yogies! Now in green will be all of the foods they can eat, and in red will be all of the foods they can't eat.

Cooked egg, peanut butter, romaine lettuce, plain cooked meat, spinach, cooked sweet potato, carrots, kale, cucumbers, zucchini, apples, oranges, papaya, bananas, grapes, grape fruit, pomegranate, strawberrys, watermelon, blueberrys, tomato, pumpkin, squash, plain crackers, plain pasta cooked or uncooked, oats, and plain popcorn.

Now here comes all of the bad foods.

Uncooked meat or meat that is breaded or has a sauce, candy, chocolate, uncooked sweet potato, brussel sprouts, celery, iceberg lettuce, Cheetos, Fritos, corn chips, crackers that aren't plain, soda, onions, potato chips, potatos, milk, and anything else that is considered junk food.

As you can see rats can eat alot of foods, and that's because in the wild they are scavengers, but there are still things you need to be careful about. And if you decide you are going to get male rat(s), as they get older you need to give them less and less protein, ( complicated right? :) ) Oh and with girls if they are pregnant, or are raising there babies they need to have more protein than normal, because when the babys are first born they need alot of protein from their mothers milk.

P.S I LOVE COMMENTS! Please leave a comment about anything you would like to know about rats and I will get back to you!
